Scientific Name– Abutilon theophrasti Medic. 'theophrasti' is given in honor of Theophras. Synonim– Abutilon avicennae Gaertn., Sida abutilon L., Sida tiliifolia Fischer. Common name(s)– pristolnic, teisor, abutilon feuille de velours, indian mallow, butter print, pie print, cotton-weed, velvetleaf, soja americana, hoja de terciapelo.
Description– erbaceous annual, 30-120 cm tall. Leaves alternate, cables orbiculare, top acuminate, margine easy crenat-evening, 15-20 cm, petiole 10-20 cm long; stipele outdated, linear-filiforme, acute, 8 mm. Flowers actinomorfe, hermaphrodite, pentamere, axillary, solitary, sometimes 2, 1.5-2 cm in diameter, peduncle short, calyx with glandular hairs, sepals oval-elliptical, united at the base, mucronate, pubescent, 4-8 mm long; corola with free petals, petals obovata, 6 to 12 mm long, yellow-orange, truncated or emarginate, stamens numerous. Blooms in June-September. Fruit pods, pubescent, dehiscence, green, brown at maturity. Seeds reniforme, gray-brown, stellate-puberulente, 3 mm. 2n = 42. Growth rate– fast. Propagation– by seeds.
