Band e Amir, the first national park in Afghanistan

National Park consists of a series of six deep lakes separated natural dykes of rock rich in red travertine. This rock is found only in few places in the world.

Fund was provided by the U.S. for developing International, with a supplement from the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Much of this park consists of a species of wild goat, a species of wild sheep, wolves, foxes, mammals, fish and a bird species is found only in Afghanistan.

Snow leopard was in the area until the 1980s, when they disappeared because of uncontrolled hunting.
