Popular names - USA: pokeroot, Pocan, red plant.

Phytolacca americana - perennial species, growing to 2-3 m high and 1.5 diameter crown. Rhizome thick underground, fusiform. Leaves alternate, petiole short, language lanceolata ovat-based and tip acute, margin entire. Flowering raceme axillary, 40 cm long. Pedicel - 1 cm long, bractei 4 mm long, 1 mm wide. Pedicel 2 presents bractei small, alternate. Rachides blossom and become red-purple pedicel when the fruits appear. Flowers appetite. Calyx of 5 sepa variable color oval, oval, 2 mm long, 10 stamens, ovary 10-carpelar, green, global and subglobos, 2.4 mm in diameter. Blooming period from May to October. Fruit Baca flashy, color purple to black, 1 cm in diameter, the surface is marked by corresponding ribs 10 of the 10 seeds are contained.

Species native to Americameridional. Grows on moist soils in sunny or semi-exhibition shadow.

Is multiplied by seeds in autumn or spring in cold greenhouse. Multiplication by division is made in March or October. Cut with a knife, a piece of rhizome that contain at least one bud, can be grown directly in standing position.

Phytolacca americana - the air of the plant has narcotic properties and coloring.

The parties have finished high in leaves collected. Gather in bunches and put them to dry in the shade in a well ventilated, are preserved in paper bags or cotton.

Roots cause vomiting, which makes aibe useful work as emergency remedy in case of ingestion of dangerous substances, limit use of Phytolacca roots is that can cause serious problems if the dosage is not respected. It is used in cancer treatments, fungicides infections, infections, arthritis, rheumatism.

Side effects - vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, tachycardia, hypotension, muscle spasms. The result and deaths, both adults and children following ingestion of leaf or stem parts.

It is suggested to avoid harvesting by common people, it is not appropriate to have this type of house plant.
