Scientific name - Rhododendron Synonyms -- Popular names - azalea, rododendroni. Distribution and Habitat - originating from China, Russia, Himalayas, Afghanistan and Pakistam, Caucasus and Black Sea to Turkey, Spain, eastern North America. Description - Plant bush, 4 m high. Roots fasciculated, superficial. Leaves coriacee, lanceolata, obovata, pubescent, 0.3-75 cm long. Flowers hermaphrodite, axillary or terminal, meeting in corymb, calyx persistent, 5 sepa; Corola infundibuliforma or campanulata, color variable. Fruit capsule contains approximately 300-400 seeds very small, 1 g contains up to 10 000 seeds. Growth rate -- Tolerances - not tolerate salinity, limestone and wind. During the rest tolerate and temperaturile of -9 ˚ C. Requirements - optimum temperature 12-14 ˚ C night and 14-20 ˚ C day. They need high relative humidity, about 80-90%. Prefers semi-shaded exhibitions during the summer, porous substrate rich in organic substances, acid pH 4.5-6.0, without calcium, the pH of 5.5 is ideal. Cal is the best substrate composed of peat, land for forest, pine needles, sand and perlite in equal gates. The substrate must be kept moist, especially during summer. Rododendronii with small leaves and grow well in full sun in areas where maximum temperatures do not exceed 32 ˚ C. Management - fertilization with N: P: K - 4:1:2 summer in 2-3 weeks. Spring and autumn fertilizeaza with N: P: K - 3:1:2 4-6 weeks. It protects from wind. Propagation - by cuttings, grafting, or seeds. Potting-up is from June to September, seedlings of 5-6 cm, which form the terminal mugurelet. It leaves out, is treated with hormones to make rizogeni and rooted on a substrate of peat, forest soil and sand in equal parts, are preserved at a temperature of 20-22 ˚ C and high humidity, rooted after about 20 days. Grafting is the evergreen specimens, from January to April or oana August-September; rootstocks (Rhododendron luteum), welding requires 6-8 weeks in the greenhouse. Seeding is done to get rootstock; be used immediately after mature seeds because germination lose. Substrate must be of peat, forest soil and sand. The seeds are covered with a thin layer of mranita eliminations. Temperature must be maintained at 15 ˚ C and high humidity. Germination occurs after about 20-40 days. Diseases and pests - salinity produces green-sickness and necrosis on the leaves. Leather Rot Phytophthora cause dry stalks, Ramucountries and roots. Ovulinia azaleae and Botrytis cause necrotic spots on the petals. Septonia azaleae cause yellowing, leaf drying and hair. Phytophthora cinnamon and Rhizoctonia solani attack the radical. Exobasidium cause galas appearance on the leaves. Caloptilia azaleella, larvae are mining the leaves. Deciduu tree of 4.10 m high, native of Japan. Bark smooth, red-brown to gray on older branches is gray-brown. Floriferi buds are red. Leaves ovat-elliptic, alternate, deeply marigini soirees, ribbed, dark green in summer, yellow fall, 4-8 cm long, pinnate nervatiune. Species native to North America, boreal Canada - Western Alaska, increases along with Picea mariana, Pinus banksiana, Populus tremuloides, Abies balms, Betula lutea and Acer saccharum. Port pyramidal, columnar, dense crown, 14-21 m high and 30-45 cm diamteru trunk, root surface, thin crust, less than 2.5 cm thick, gray-purple. Shrub or small tree, growing 1-15 m tall. Leaves glossy, evergreen, opposite, coriacee, oval or elliptical, dark green, 7-10 cm long. Large solitary flowers, double or semiduble, white, 5.12 cm diameter. Bloom from May to September. Prunus armeniaca - shrub or small tree, native of northeastern China, knew and cultivated worldwide for its edible fruit. Inflorescences solitary, 1.5-3 cm in diameter, involucre 3.8 mm high, bracts ovata or oval Evergreen ornamental plant of the Theaceae family, native from Eastern Asia, its origin is still controversial, being considered by some as species indigenous from Japonia and, by others, from China.
