Scientific Name - Trachelospermum jasminoides (Lindl.) Lem.

Synonyms - Rhynchospermum jasminoides

Popular names - star jasmine, chinese star jasmine, Confederate jasmine, Gelsomino falso, Luo Shi.

Distribution and Habitat - originated in southern China and Vietnam.

Description - voluble species, evergreen. Strains glib, woody, 5-7 m long. Bark smooth, reddish brown, with time becomes screpolata .. Leaves opposite, coriacee, elliptic to oblong, margin entire, 10 cm long, dark green. Flowers bisexual, white, fragrant, clustered in axillary CIME. Campanula calyx. Hypocrateriforma corolla with 5 petals, 2.5 cm in diameter. Blooms in May and June. Fruit follicles, 10-18 cm long.

Growth rate - slow.

Requirements - fertile soil, well-drained, sunny or partially shaded exhibitions.

Management & ndash, after blooming is clipped. The growth period is often wet and apply liquid fertilizer monthly.

Propagation - by semi-lignified cuttings in summer.

Properties and Uses - a species used for ornamental purposes, for the pergola.

Curiosity - Trachelospermum derived from the Greek 'trachelor' = neck, and 'sperm = seed, referring to the form of seeds.
